Throughout 2025, Your RCD Never Stopped Working
Despite the devastating fires of early 2025, your RCD never stopped conserving impacted wildspaces, providing education programs for youth, protecting sensitive and endangered species or ensuring wildfire resilient resources were available to struggling communities.
Each of our departments helped our community and environment recover in different ways.
This year alone our…
Community Resilience Department:
- conducted 439 Home Ignition Zone Evaluations
- led 4 community wildfire resilience trainings, in both english and spanish
- took park in 7 public fire resilience education events
- gave 4 fire-wise presentations
- provided 55 home hardening reimbursements
- designed 24 customized landscape plans
- completed 12 Zone Zero retrofits
Research & Restoration Department:
- conducted 16 biological surveys, including nesting bird surveys
- led 15 restoration events with the help of 233 volunteers
- surveyed over 20 miles of stream habitat
- organized 2 endangered fish rescues in the wake of the Palisades Fire, successfully rescuing and relocating over 900 individuals
Education Department:
- led 66 environmental education programs
- engaged 3,599 students through these programs
Some of our work is supported by competitively sought grants written by our hard-working staff and a very small percentage is funded by our district’s property tax, but the remainder of our work remains unfunded. We seek support from community donors to ensure the important conservation efforts might continue.
